Bribie Island Satellite Health Centre (Yarun)

Satellite health centres provide an alternative healthcare model for managing low-acuity emergency care and chronic disease in a community setting closer to home.

The name, The name ‘Yarun’ originates from the Kabi Kabi and Djoondoburri people – Oondoo dialect ‘Yarun’ meaning crab or hunting ground.

As part of the 1st stage of opening, this facility offers the following services by appointment only:

  • Kidney Health Services
  • Day Medical Treatment Unit
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Service
  • Ngarrama Maternal Health
  • Perinatal Mental Health
  • Outpatient Mental Health Services
  • Medical imaging

Every satellite health centre also has a Minor Injury and Illness Clinic that provides treatment for unplanned, non-life-threatening conditions such as:

  • Simple fractures
  • Simple infections
  • Minor burns.

Minor Injury and Illness Clinics are open 7 days a week, do not require an appointment, and are free for Medicare card holders.

The Bribie Island Satellite Health Centre (Yarun) was officially opened on 17 July 2024.

Minor Injury and Illness Clinics help reduce the number of low-acuity Emergency department arrivals at nearby hospitals.

Queensland Health is committed to ensuring patients are seen and treated in a timely manner and aims to increase the proportion of patients whose length of stay in the Minor Injury and Illness Clinic is under 4 hours. The higher the percentage, the better the performance.
